Day 3 of the Valentine's Day Giveaway - Tiffany & Co. + Photo-session

This morning I woke up so sore! Last night Angela and I went to "Dancer's Bootcamp" and wow. My body hates me - but it was so rewarding. As part of my "healthy train" regime, today is the gym then off to dance later this evening. And as I was racking my brains as to what to share today, Angela said to stick to passion - and it clicked! I just had to share my favourite quote about love.

"When you fall in love, it is a temporary madness. It erupts like an earthquake, and then it subsides. And when it subsides, you have to make a decision. You have to work out whether your roots are become so entwined together that it is inconceivable that you should ever part. Because this is what love is. Love is not breathlessness, it is not excitement, it is not the desire to mate every second of the day. It is not lying awake at night imagining that he is kissing every part of your body. No... don't blush. I am telling you some truths. For that is just being in love; which any of us can convince ourselves we are. Love itself is what is left over, when being in love has burned away. Doesn't sound very exciting, does it? But it is! "
-Captain Correlli's Mandolin

That right there is my favourite quote about love, I feel that its so true and real. I love the idea of roots being intertwined together - it's so romantic. And it made me think of my parents, okay not the quote directly but just how things are. My parents have been married for 35+ years and I remember so many memories of my parents when I was a toddler of them dancing in the kitchen, or my dad sneaking kisses while my mom washed the dishes. I think my favourite was when my dad would surprise my mom with Pink-Cream Soda. Yup, the simply surprise of bringing home her favourite soda. It just shows that it's just about the thought, not the quantity. Just simply remembering your mate.

In the comment section below: I'd like to hear about the most romantic moment your lives, what was your proposal story, how did you meet your mate, or the most romantic thing anyone has ever done for you. Share it in the comment section below!

I've shared in so many couples big days - and I feel honoured to have gotten a front seat view of their wedding. It's almost like watching a romantic movie and being immersed in it. I get to hear the family give speeches, see their slideshows of them as a couple and it just makes me so happy to be invited into their lives.

Some of my favourite memories from the weddings I've photographed was seeing the Bride/Groom when they receive a surprise in the morning from their mate. Whether it be a little note expressing their excitement prior to the ceremony while they're getting ready, or roses with a little card just saying I love you. Seeing the Bride shed a tear and Groom get excited even gets me giddy. One of the notes that a Bride received that I remember vividly was written prose and the last line was "God has blessed me today, for I am going to marry my best-friend". And I just loved that concept and it made so much sense. We are only here for a short time, our precious moments should be spent with our best friends.

This was Kerry's note to Andrew - she asked me to take it to him when I saw him prior to the ceremony.

I was going through my hard-drive and noticed that I hadn't shared an amazing engagement photo-session featuring Robin & Simon from Grand Prairie - AB. Simon was originally from London and moved over to Alberta for a work position, and Robin is in university.

I met these two back in November, and they flew to Vancouver to have their engagement session. I remember Robin expressing that Alberta was not fitting for the style of photos she wanted. She was "over" the barn-themed weddings. So I met them downtown Vancouver and we wandered the winter-afternoon. These two completed complimented each other, it was so wonderful to watch them together. Especially hearing Simon talk to her sweetly with his accent!!!!

  1. My boyfriend one valentines day strapped a message to my cat's collar at our home and it told me to "give me some food". So I went to the cat's food bag, opened it up and found another note "no, real food. check the fridge". So by this point I'm thinking this is silly, I open the fridge and there's my favourite cupcakes from the cupcake store spelling out "I love you" and in the middle cupcake there was a box with a pendent inside.

I thought it was pretty sweet!

Robin is really striking, I love her hair/eyes!

  2. What a gorgeous couple!

I love your quote too and after 10 years of being with my hubby, I'd back it up 100%.

My hubby is my soul mate and my best friend. He does the small things every day. He always makes sure I have a towel set out after my bath, he recites "like the colour of her skin, but not after Mexico" when he makes me a cup of coffee", he calls me first when something is going down because he respects my opinion and truly is my best friend, and no matter what, in the 10 years we've been together, he always wants to know "what's inside". If i'm quiet, he'll gently knock on my head for me 'to let him in'. Seeing him as a father is just a whole other level. He is my Sweet Baboo...

  4. My husband kisses me goodnight every night when I doze off. I am usually the first to fall asleep. He always kisses me and says he loves me.

That alone is my favourite thing.

    My favourite quote is:
“Find a guy who calls you beautiful instead of hot, who calls you back when you hang up on him, who will lie under the stars and listen to your heartbeat, or will stay awake just to watch you sleep... wait for the boy who kisses your forehead, who wants to show you off to the world when you are in sweats, who holds your hand in front of his friends, who thinks you're just as pretty without makeup on. One who is constantly reminding you of how much he cares and how lucky his is to have you.... The one who turns to his friends and says, 'that's her.'”

  5. wow, gorgeous couple!

The most romantic thing that my husband did for me was when we were just started dating. My mother has just past away a month before, and I was living in her house and feeling very sad with the constant reminder that she was no longer with us.
Curt set up an entire weekend, wehre I went away to visit a friend in Victoria, and unknown to me, he and crew of 40 friends and family pulled a "While You Were Out" style makeover of my house!! They completely re-decorated my livingroom, kitchen, dinningroom and bedroom to suit my style and give me a fresh new perspective on life. I was just totally blown-away that my (at the time) new boyfriend would do such a thing for me! It was pretty awesome!!

  6. Ashley yet again your photos take my breath away your are such an amazing photographer! I love this blog idea I always look at new photos that you have posted but can never respond to how beautiful each and everyone of them are (as that would take all day) the couple in this set of photos is beautiful thank you for sharing them with us! I also loved your quote as well as the one Emily posted they truly show what Love should be about.

Mine story isn't so much romantic as something that was just an amazing moment. It was actually with the guy I am currently dating. This is a guy I have known most of my life but only ever get to see in the summer when I come visit family in Saskatoon. This summer he told me he had a surpirse for that it was nothing big just something special he wanted to share with me. O one of my last days in town he called me up and said my friends took over the house but can you come over in a hour I wanna see you. Turns out this was the perfect night for my surprise and he took me for a drive around town showing me important spots to him and for previous spots that we had been to over the years and ended up along the river in Saskatoon and on the train bridge that passes over top where we watched the sunset and the stars come out. He took me to a spot he found where no one really knew of and to let me in to his own little space that was one of the most amazing moments I can think of. I think that one of the best ways to show someone you care about them is to let in to your life in a way not many others are and he showed me that and I will never forget it.

  7. Ashley, you really are a romantic! At first when I read what you wrote, I tried to hard to think of romantic memories but really, what came to mind was just Kevin himself. What's romantic now is the silly smiles and jokes that only we share, the way he'll look at me - especially when I don't look so hot... and just the way he says he loves me. The quote said "When you fall in love, it is a temporary madness. It erupts like an earthquake, and then it subsides." I think we're lucky enough that it wasn't like that for us in the beginning, it feels like that now, now that our roots have become so entwined together that it is inconceivable that we should ever part! Ok, how dorky am I, but really, it's true! :)

    Loved hearing everyones stories!

  8. This may not have been the most romantic moment in my life but it never fails to make me giggle. In grade nine I recieved a candy-o-gram from my crush on Valentines day which read "As the deer panteth for water, so I long for you." I think his buddy wrote it for him, but always brings a smile to my face!

  11. I don't honestly remember the #1 most romantic moment of my life. My fiance, Ryan, is all about the little, everyday things.

For example, last week he really made me feel special and taken care of. I work at a restaurant downtown/ on the inner harbour and my shifts don't have set end times. Lately though, I've been done by about 9-10pm. Last Friday night my fiance, Ryan, offered to pick me up from work, so I wouldn't have to bus home in the dark. I agreed to call him to let him know when he should leave the house. It turned out to be a really busy night, so I didn't call Ryan until midnight and he said, "ok, on my way. See you in half an hour." I was off at 1230am, and rushed outside to Ryan in the car. When I kissed his cheek it was freezing cold (and he is always warm). After worriedly pressuring him for an explanation he admitted that when he hadn't heard from me by 11pm he thought I must have forgotten to give him advance notice of when I'd be done (cause I'd never been there that late before), so he came downtown early, worried that I'd be locked out of the restaurant late at night downtown. He'd been sitting in the parked car outside for over and hour! Omg, I just about melted. He wasn't even impatient; he had brought a book and a reading light (also soooo cute). I felt SO guilty about it, but he said he didn't mind waiting in the cold car because I was precious to him and he wanted to know I was safe. *Happy sigh*

  12. I thought I'd share my propsal story as well, because it's actually really romatantic!

So we were building a house at the time, and almost every day we'd stop in to see the progress. On this particular night we'd just been out to dinner and were headed to the Giants hockey game. Curt wanted to stop in at the house "to see the new soffits they put in". I could really care less about soffits and just wanted to stay in the car. But Curt insisted and made me come in. I go in the door first (the house was just at the framing stage, no drywall yet) and I notice a lit tealight candle on the stioars leading upstairs. My first thought was, "why in the world would the workers leave a lit candle in my house all night?" I really was that clueless! And Curt was like like " no no, go take a look". Then i noticed that there were lit candles going all the way up the stairs, leading down the hall to the master bedroom, and there were lit candles all along the sides of the bedroom and all over, it was SO ROMANTIC. In teh middle of the room was a bottle of champagne and two crystal glasses. But I was still clueless! I really just though he was being romantic, we had these "1001 nights of romance" scratch cards that I thought this all was. But then i turned around and he was down on one knee with the ring out!!!
